THIS IS THE HOME OF BOBBING CREEK PINOT NOIR, VITICULTURE AT ITS BEST! GROWN IN NORTH OTAGOS LIMESTONE STREWN WAITAKI VALLEY.
Our vines are all on their own root, planted in 2006, we grow Dijon clones 667 and 777 with a little UCD 5 and 6. The climate is typically dry inland Otago. Thus we enjoy a long slow ripening period for our fruit. The vines grow on a narrow river terrace, just above the Waitaki river. Our growing philosophy is organic, we follow organic guidelines which includes rotations of copper, potassium, sulphur and seaweed to control grapevine mildew. From the beginning, viticulturist, Andrew Ballantyne established the two guyot cane pruning system, which has proved beneficial here. Being a small vineyard, our harvest is around two tons. This enables the whole vineyard to be picked in a single day, with the fruit being processed overnight. Winemaker Nicholas Brown closely monitors the quality to determine the harvest date. |
